Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (BRI) through its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities takes part in supporting the role of women through various empowerment programs which are actually able to encourage the welfare of Indonesian women. One of them is through the implementation of the BRInita Program (BRI Farming in the City).
BRI is aware that a strong woman is not only measured by her speed, strength and enthusiasm for life. A special woman is also measured by her full support for the family, full attention to her children, and can even help the family economically. Women also take many roles to contribute in various fields.
In this program, BRI takes an important part by empowering the community, especially women, by creating a sustainable urban farming ecosystem in densely populated urban areas, so that they can gain value, in terms of social, economic and environmental aspects.
The BRInita program has currently been implemented in 21 locations spread across various regions in Indonesia, most of which are managed by women's business groups.
“The targets of this program are densely populated locations and slum settlements that have local environmental activists (local heroes) who are members of groups (Women's Farmers Group or PKK or Mothers). BRInita not only builds physical facilities, but also provides ongoing training “which is expected to maintain the preservation of plants and the survival of the surrounding ecosystem,” said Deputy Main Director of BRI Catur Budi Harto, Monday (22/4/2024).
In its implementation, BRI also provides guidance for group members or beneficiaries in the form of urban farming management training by collaborating with experts/related agencies as well as monitoring urban farming activities and developing urban farming results so that they can add economic value such as sales, management, packaging and marketing. .
“It is hoped that this activity can reduce environmental pollution, increase beauty and reduce household waste. On the other hand, this is also a manifestation of the community's positive contribution to environmental balance,” said Catur.
Since it was implemented in 2022, the BRInita program has carried out 49 training sessions for beneficiaries, consisting of training in hydroponic cultivation, ornamental plant care, making Eco Enzyme, preventing and controlling plant pests and using hydroponic system equipment.
This program was also recorded as having involved 615 people consisting of women's business groups or PKK women and was recorded as having harvested 348 kg of fisheries such as catfish and tilapia tilapia. This program also produced 3,982 Kg of vegetative liquid organic fertilizer and compost, 80 Kg of Black Soldier Fly (BSF) maggots (caterpillars) which were cultivated by group members and produced 112 types of family medicinal plants (Toga Plants) such as galangal, ginger, galangal, and others.
Meaning Kartini Day, Emphasizing BRI's Commitment to Women's Empowerment
Catur added, BRInita is a women's empowerment program, to be able to take a big role, not only in the family environment, but also work a lot in the social environment and the wider community. Ultimately, BRInita can help women continue to shine, be confident and never give up, in positioning themselves as part of the importance of economic development and modeling in society.
“Just like the story of Kartini as an inspirational female figure or figure, through the BRINita program BRI encourages women in various regions in Indonesia to continue working, being creative and trying. The BRInita program is a forum for women to be able to channel their potential and creativity which can provide economic value ,” he added.
In the BRInita program there are several potential programs that can be utilized by group members, including developing aquaponics, processing crop harvests that can be used as processed food, developing agrotourism that can collaborate with other stakeholders and the potential for developing product marketing networks.
“This is of course a positive forum, especially several training and empowerment programs in it which are expected to encourage the welfare of women,” stressed Catur.
