Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Telegram has one week to eradicate online gambling content. Otherwise, the Ministry of Communication and Information will block this messaging application.
Director General of Informatics Applications, Kominfo, Semuel Abrijani Pangerapan, said that his party had sent a second letter to Telegram regarding online gambling content.
Telegram, said Semuel, will have one week to respond to the letter. If Kominfo sends three letters to Telegram and there are no results, the platform will be blocked.
“We have called Telegram, we have sent a second letter for follow up. There are up to 600 pending to be resolved immediately. We will give you a week to respond,” said Semuel while having coffee together at the Kominfo Office, Friday (14/6/2024).

“Once again (lettered). If it's the third time, it's blocked,” he added.
Previously, the Minister of Communication and Information, Budi Arie, revealed that Telegram was the most uncooperative platform in eradicating online gambling which was being promoted by the government.
“I warned the Telegram platform that if it is not cooperative, I will close it,” he stressed at a press conference some time ago.
Budi sees a trend of online gambling using the Telegram platform to facilitate this activity. Meanwhile, Google has so far committed to handling online gambling.
