Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Starlink was inaugurated in Indonesia by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk and President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) some time ago. This satellite-based internet service is now offering discounts of up to 40% for hardware purchases.
This discount is valid until June 10 2024, specifically for devices on residential and roaming services. The benchmark price which was originally IDR 7.8 million has now been cut to IDR 4,680,000.
The monthly service subscription price remains the same, at IDR 750,000 per month. Meanwhile regionally it is IDR 990,000 per month.
If you are interested in buying a Starlink device and subscribing to its internet service, you need to pay attention to signal stability when faced with bad weather.
Starlink uses low earth orbit (LEO) satellites and phased array antennas to help maintain its performance during adverse weather conditions.
For more details, here is Starlink's internet performance when facing various weather conditions, quoted by CNBC Indonesia from TechTarget, Friday (24/5/2024).
Cloudy weather
Overcast or cloudy weather will not affect Starlink. However, if storm clouds occur they will affect the signal, as they tend to cause rain which can cause interference.
Storm clouds are also more humid and dense, so they play a big role in satellite signal degradation.
Rain
If there is light rain, it generally does not cause problems with Starlink services. However, heavy rain can affect Starlink signal quality.
Heavy rain is associated with thick, dense clouds. The thicker the clouds, the higher the chance that radio signals coming to and from Starlink satellites are blocked.
Wind
A properly installed Starlink dish or antenna will not be affected by strong winds.
Starlink satellite dishes are equipped with phased array antennas that can track satellites flying overhead without needing to physically move. This also helps prevent signal interference.
Fog
Normal fog does not affect the Starlink signal. However, if there is thick fog, the signal can be disrupted and lost. Thick fog brings a lot of moisture and is thick enough to interfere with signals.
