Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – British Prime Minister (PM), Rishi Sunak has apologized to all Adidas Samba shoe fans after receiving harsh criticism from netizens. This apology was made after he was accused of destroying the credibility of the Samba-loving community.
According to The Guardian, Sunak drew criticism after being seen wearing grey, white and black trainers combined with a white shirt, dark blue chinos and black socks during an interview at Downing Street.
In their criticism, quite a few netizens said that they would sell their shoes online because Sunak was considered to have “ruined” everyone's appearance, especially the Samba community.
Through his apology, Sunak admitted that he had worn Adidas Samba for many years and was a long-standing fan of Adidas. This was conveyed by Sunak during an interview with LBC Radio.
“I offer my deepest apologies to the Samba-loving community. However, in my defense, I have worn Adidas sneakers, including the Samba and others, for many years,” said Sunak, quoted Thursday (11/4/2024).
“I bought that pair of shoes, but I have had Adidas shoes for a long time,” he added.
Previously, British GQ Magazine said that Sunak always wore sneakers that were considered cool by the public in an effort to show that he was “young and cool”.
Meanwhile, footwear historian Elizabeth Semmelhack said Sunak's habit could be the “death knell” for retro sports shoes.
