Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The National Democratic Party or NasDem has signaled that it will join Prabowo Subianto's coalition, which won the presidential election in February 2024.
Hearing this news, Secretary of the High Council of the Democratic Party Andi Alfian Mallarangeng also opened his voice. He explained that the four parties in the current parliament, such as Golkar, Gerindra, Democrat and PAN, had 'sweated' together to support and win Prabowo-Gibran in the presidential election.
Then Andi mentioned that apart from the four political parties, there are other political parties that support other candidate pairs who are rivals to Prabowo-Gibran. Even so, he agreed that there needed to be another party outside the Prabowo-Gibran coalition that would form the opposition in the next government.
“We agree that there also needs to be political parties outside the government that act as opposition. It could be one, two or three, but four [partai] not possible. “We want to have a majority (in parliament),” he said.
Andi admitted that there was a need for Prabowo to have majority support in parliament. For him, the Prabowo-Gibran coalition is currently still a minority because it only has 48% of the seats in parliament.
According to him, parliamentary support is important to execute various government policies.
“Parliamentary support in government policies, such as laws and regulations, many things require Parliamentary support. If you don't have majority support then it will be difficult for the government to run. Maybe Pak Prabowo needs to invite friends from outside, in 01 and 03 some of them will enter the government, ” he said.
At the same event, NasDem Secretary General Hermawi Taslim admitted that he was not insulted by Andi's statement about loyalty. He said that in politics one should not be held hostage by the past.
“And we are not fooled by anyone's statements, in normal politics. We cannot be held hostage to the past. That's why we are a political party in making decisions. Dialogue is normal,” said Hermawi.
The Democrats left the coalition supporting Anies Baswedan before the 2024 presidential election. This decision was made after Anies appointed PKB General Chair Muhaimin Iskandar alias Cak Imin as his vice presidential candidate.
Even though the Democrats had initially formed a coalition with NasDem and PKS to support Anies. Anies-Muhaimin then received support from the NasDem Party, PKB and PKS. Meanwhile, the Democrats are shifting support to Prabowo-Gibran in the 2024 presidential election.
