Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Minister of Trade (Mendag) Zulkifli Hasan (Zulhas) said that the government does not prohibit the import of laptops, refrigerators, air conditioners and other goods.
“I don't think it's possible to ban it. But if it's regulated, yes. If it's banned, it's not possible because then the WTO (World Trade Organization, UN trade organization) will get angry at us. But if it's regulated, it's possible,” he told journalists on the sidelines of a Halalbihalal event at home. personally, Jakarta, (10/4/2024).
Director General of Foreign Trade at the Ministry of Trade (Kemendag) Budi Santoso added the same thing.
“There is no prohibition. It has now been implemented (limited prohibition). So nothing is prohibited. So the Minister of Trade Regulation does not prohibit it, perhaps there must be technical approval so there must be a process,” he said.
“In principle, in the Minister of Trade Regulation there are several commodities, from the post border to the border, there are also additional traffic from the technical ministry. For example, there must be technical verification and it has not been issued yet because it is still being processed. Minister of Trade Regulation 36 is being revised continuously. It is not prohibited, stressed Budi.
As is known, the government is currently regulating imports by issuing Minister of Trade Regulation (Permendag) No. 36/2023 concerning Import Policies and Regulations which has been changed to Permendag No. 3/2024. This rule has been in effect since March 10, 2024.
As part of this provision, the Minister of Industry (Menperin) issued supporting regulations in the form of technical regulations related to import restrictions. With details of 78 tariff posts applied by Import Approval (PI) and Surveyor's Report (LS) and 61 other tariff posts applied only by LS.
