Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Amid the threat of a global recession, the digital economy is one sector that can bring optimism. This was revealed by the Minister of Communication and Information (Menkominfo) Budi Arie Setiadi, at the CNBC Indonesia Economic Outlook 2024 event at the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Pacific Place, Jakarta, Thursday (29/2/2024).
“This sector [red: digital] is projected to grow exponentially,” he said.
Budi Arie gave the example of artificial intelligence (AI) technology which has been gaining popularity since the end of 2022. Currently, countries in the world are competing in developing this future technology.
He said that at the global level AI technology is projected to continue to accelerate with a value reaching US$ 207 billion by 2030.
Nationally, the digital economy valuation is predicted to reach US$ 109 billion in 2025. To boost the development of the digital sector, the Ministry of Communication and Information has released the Digital Indonesia Vision (VID) 2045.
“This vision prioritizes infrastructure as the foundation for realizing a responsive digital government, an innovative digital economy, and digital inclusion for all Indonesian society and citizens,” he explained.
Furthermore, the goal of VID 2045 is to support Indonesia's efforts to get out of the middle income trap. This condition occurs when a country has entered the middle level, but has difficulty rising to the advanced level.
“We hope that Indonesia will be among the 10 countries with the largest gross domestic product (GDP) in the world,” he said.
To realize VID, the Ministry of Communication and Information continues to support the collaborative efforts of all parties, from industry players to the government, to be able to align plans with the national digital transformation agenda.
