Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Indonesian citizens usually undertake medical tourism to Malaysia and Singapore. However, apparently this kind of tourism is also present in India and is even said to be cheaper than Indonesia's two neighboring countries.
This was conveyed by the Indian Ambassador to Indonesia, Shri Sandeep Chakravorty, at the Indonesia-India Health Business Forum at the Indian Embassy in Jakarta, Tuesday (27/2/2024).
“I can unequivocally say that high-quality healthcare in India is the cheapest in the world. There is no doubt about it,” he said.
Chakravorty said India has quality health services, where hospitals definitely have a Joint Commission International (JCI) certificate, which provides highly competent health workers and doctors.
“So, our expertise in advanced technology and advanced medicine is very, very high. Even in Singapore, you may spend more money, but at the end of the day you will be treated by Indian doctors,” he said.
Chakravorty said that in the United States, one of every six doctors is a doctor from India.
“So, I say to my Indonesian friends that if you need health attention, health services and you can't find it in Indonesia, go to India,” he added.
Opportunities for Collaboration with the Indonesian Government
Chakravorty further said that his country also wants to collaborate with the Indonesian government, especially to establish cooperation between hospitals.
“The law has been changed now. This will allow Indian doctors to work with Indonesian doctors in the free trade area,” he said.
“But I look forward to more openness, more legal liberalization so that doctors can work with Indonesian doctors, Indian doctors, work with them, build capacity, build skills. We want to introduce Indonesian doctors to India, bring them to India for training,” he concluded .
