Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The popular YouTuber group 'Dude Perfect' suddenly made a profit because it received funding in the range of US$ 100-300 million (Rp. 1.5-4.7 billion) from private investment company Highmount Capital.
The investment will be used for Dude Perfect's exploration of new strategic opportunities and expansion outside the social media content business.
“We're looking forward to trying out some new visions and things we feared would just be dreams until now,” said Coby Cotton, co-founder of Dude Perfect.
“We just want to explore a lot of things that we have never done until now,” he emphasized, quoted from CNBC International, Wednesday (10/4/2024).
Dude Perfect has five members. Respectively Coby Cotton, Cory Cotton, Tyler Toney, Garret Hilbert and Cody Jones.
They met at Texas A&M University and launched a YouTube channel together in 2009. Their videos of basketball scoring tricks went viral.
They also gained popularity and often appeared on television. They have also collaborated with several big brands.
Dude Perfect's YouTube channel has more than 60 million subscribers with more than 17 billion views. Data from Social Blade states that Dude Perfect is the channel with the 35th most subscribers worldwide.
Dude Perfect now has 25 employees based at their headquarters in Frisco, Texas. In fact, they have also started working on the F&B business by developing the 'Smoothie King' smoothie product.
They also have a series of toy products that are selling well on the market.
“They built such a great business that we wanted to in parallel let them grow faster,” said Highmount Capital co-founder Jason Illian.
Highmount Capital's investment into Dude Perfect is under a long-term ownership structure. Highmount Capital hopes the group expands beyond online content.
The future of this group of YouTubers will be dubbed “Dude Perfect 2.0” and consists of plans to open retail stores, launch a streaming platform, introduce a line of toys and games at Walmart, as well as his grand ambition of opening a US$ 100 million theme park.
The Dude Perfect team has become adept at creating family-friendly entertainment content, which is key to attracting more advertisers on YouTube.
“The next generation isn't going to come along and switch to cable,” Illian said.
“They use their cellphones, subscribe and follow. And this is it [Dude Perfect] the people they listen to,” he concluded.
