Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Senior comedian Opie Kumis is quite famous for his life story, where he lived hard and worked as a manual laborer, such as being a construction worker and doing odd jobs. However, it turns out that this artist who works in the field of theater arts has also sought income from activities that are not blessed.
“I once sold sandals on the train, I thought my life was a bad night at that time,” said Opie in a conversation on a podcast with Deryansha Azhary.
Opie explained that the meaning of the night of hell was a time when he was experiencing financial difficulties. At that time, Opie was determined to do anything for money.
“Do you want to sin, don't do it, grandpa, just do it,” he said.
Opie said that he had bought leather sandals that failed to produce from the factory located where he lives, Rawajati, Kalibata, to resell.
“He (the factory person), sometimes when he makes (sandals), sometimes there are ones that are crooked, sometimes the right one has already been made, but he makes another (pair) in the shape of (sandals for the right foot). Well, I “I like to buy (those sandals with production defects), which are rejected. I sell them on the train, get on (the train) after Maghrib,” continued Opie.
When asked why Opie did this, Opie just said, “that's how evil I am.” Opie reiterated that this was done when he needed money and at that time he bought it for only IDR 3 thousand silver.
In the evening, Opie took action by selling the sandals for IDR 15 thousand to train passengers. Opie admitted that he could sell as many as five pairs of sandals a day.
Selling fake Ayam Cemani
“During the shamanic era, it sold really well. People could buy it in Jatinegara for IDR 300-400 thousand. In my mind, how do I beat Ayam Cemani? I bought a domestic chicken that didn't have feathers. There were broiler chickens, they were big but the feathers were thin. “Well, that's what I bought for at most IDR 50 thousand. When I got home I washed the chicken and dried it in the sun, after that I piloxed the items,” said Opie.
Opie continued, for people who understand Ayam Cemani, the chicken's tongue is also black. To get around this, Opie sometimes smears it with a marker.
With capital of IDR 50 thousand and pilox IDR 75 thousand, Opie sells it on the market for IDR 350 thousand. And so that customers don't see the color of the tongue, Opie deliberately puts insulation in the chicken's beak.
Opie admits that in the days when he was not famous, he admitted that the things he did were not very blessed.
He has even been retaliated against for his actions.
