Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Menko Marves) Luhut Binsar Panjaitan said that his party had secured three investment commitments at once from China.
He expressed this after the Deputy for Investment and Mining Coordination at the Coordinating Ministry for Marves, Septian Hario Seto, made a working visit to several companies in China a few days ago.
“Even though it was done during the fasting month, the team I assigned managed to get 3 investment commitments in just 3 days. I feel this is the luck of those who continue to fast even though they are working,” said Luhut, quoted from his personal Instagram account, Wednesday (20/ 3/2024).
The first Chinese company investment commitment in Indonesia is in the solar panel industry. Meanwhile, the company's investment commitment in Indonesia is quite fantastic, no joke, the value reaches US$ 3.5 – US$ 4 billion, divided into 3 phases.
After receiving an investment commitment with a solar panel company, Luhut said Seto then held a meeting with a vertically integrated textile company.
According to Luhut, if Apple has Foxconn as its main supplier, then this company is the Foxconn for Nike, Adidas, Uniqlo and Puma. This company also has a commitment to enter Indonesia.
“There was one thing that amazed Seto about the way this company treated its employees. Almost all employees (and their families) lived in dormitories provided by the company. They also got 3 free meals a day.
Before returning to his homeland, according to Luhut Seto, he also visited the electric car giant from China, namely BYD. The agenda for the meeting was to discuss the finalization of their factory investment in Indonesia.
“My deputy visited Shenzhen to meet BYD to finalize their factory investment. BYD is very enthusiastic about investing in Indonesia and the target is that in early 2026, their factory can start commercial production in Indonesia,” added Luhut.
