Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Travel on time is one of the most important considerations a traveler makes before deciding whether to book a subsequent flight on the same airline.
The latest results from travel data analytics firm Cirium reveal that the most on-time airline last year in the global category was Colombia's Avianca Airlines, which achieved an on-time performance rate of 85.73%.
His position was then followed by Azul Airlines from Brazil (85.51%), which lost the top ranking. Qatar Airways is in third place with an OTP rate of 85.11%.
“A global airline is defined as an airline that serves three regions every day,” the company said, as quoted by CNBC International.
An airline's on-time performance is calculated based on whether the aircraft arrives at the gate within 15 minutes of the scheduled arrival time and whether the aircraft departs within 15 minutes of the scheduled departure time.

In Asia-Pacific, Japanese airlines All Nippon Airways (ANA) and Japan Airlines (JAL) claimed the top two spots with on-time performance rates of 82.75% and 82.58% respectively.
Thailand's Thai AirAsia fell to fourth place last year from first place in 2022.
India's low-cost carrier Indigo rose to fourth from fifth last year thanks to the company's rapid expansion. This airline, which has the largest fleet size and market share in India, will become the first Indian airline in 2023 to carry 100 million passengers in one calendar year. The report shows an on-time performance score of 82.12%.
“IndiGo has really emerged as an influential player in APAC. Their operations have changed since Covid,” said David White, vice president of business development at Cirium.
“This makes ANA [All Nippon Airways] and JAL [Japan Airlines] losing their money in terms of on-time performance,” White said at an online press conference ahead of the report's release.
The most punctual airport
Minneapolis-Saint Paul International Airport was the world's most punctual airport in 2023. It was followed by India's Rajiv Gandhi International Airport in Hyderabad.
“Indian airports are not in the top 10 in 2022, and this big jump to second place is thanks to some pretty phenomenal investments,” said Mike Malik, Cirium's chief marketing officer.
