Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Kaizen concept is now popular in the industrial world. Kaizen comes from Japanese which focuses on improvement or repair. Nowadays, the concepts and principles are widely used by companies in developing and implementing corporate culture.
Literally, Kaizen consists of two kanji letters, namely Kai and Zen. Kai means change and Zen means goodness. So in the company context it can be interpreted that Kaizen basically means continuous improvement for everyone, including top management and employees.
The Kaizen philosophy assumes that the way of life is a life of social work and family life that is always undergoing constant improvement. This continues continuously, where the process of continuing to get better is a process that has no end.
Kaizen concept (continuous improvement) has become the attention of many countries in the world and is the main key to Japan's success.
By using Kaizen principles in the ever-growing manufacturing industry, Japan is recognized by other developed countries, such as England, the United States, China, and others. It is not surprising that many countries also want to apply the Kaizen concept to advance their industry.
Quoting the Executive Journal vol 9 published on December 2 2012, entitled “Literature Study of Implementation Continuous Improvement System (Kaizen) in Japan, China and England” states that there are three main keys in implementing the Kaizen concept.
First, through Kaizen the company is expected to be able to reorganize the composition of work, with the aim of reducing incidental work and improve work processes to make them more effective.
Second is framework 5S, namely a method of intensively structuring and maintaining work areas used by management. Especially in efforts to maintain order, efficiency and discipline at work sites while improving overall company performance.
Third is standardization, namely determining standards that are used as benchmarks in implementing improvements to achieve efficiency.
In everyday life, Kaizen has been rooted in Japanese people since ancient times national way of life. This is also closely related to high quality consciousness.
The beginning of implementing Kaizen is the formation of a group with the task of working together to find solutions to the problems found. After the problem and information are collected, then design a new improvement concept.
This concept was also simulated and then evaluated whether this new improvement concept was effective and acceptable or not.
In its application, Kaizen involves all members of the company, both management and employees. Companies realize that management must prioritize meeting customer needs if they want to continue to exist, earn as much profit as possible, and continue to grow.
The goal of Kaizen is to improve quality, processes, systems, costs and scheduling for customer satisfaction. The Kaizen method used includes changing the way employees work so that they work more productively, as well as more effectively and efficiently. The second improves the equipment used in manufacturing.
For this reason, Kaizen requires management and employees to continue to have initiative and actively work within the company. With good relations between management and employees, customer needs will be met and the company will obtain optimal profits and continue to grow.
The Kaizen concept has also become one of the principles promoted by PT Bank J Trust Indonesia Tbk (BCIC) or J Trust Bank. This Japanese standard bank, which was founded in 2015 and is based in Jakarta, is present in Indonesia to provide Japanese standard banking services by implementing this philosophy.
