Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Tesla CEO Elon Musk predicts that artificial intelligence (AI) will be superhuman (superhuman) who is smarter than anyone on earth will probably exist next year. That means, the role of humans will be exhausted and will be replaced by this technology.
However, energy and computing needs in this sector cannot be sustainable before this happens.
This prediction is a sharpening of previous claims from multibillionaires, that superintelligent AI will exist by 2029.
“My guess is we will have AI smarter than any human by the end of next year,” Musk said in a tweet on his social network X.
The billionaire, who is also a co-founder of OpenAI, said that the lack of advanced chips hindered model training for the Grok 2 version. Musk said training Grok 2 models required about 20 thousand Nvidia H100 GPUs, and adding Grok 3 models and beyond would require 100 thousand Nvidia H100 chips.
“Last year it was chip limited. People couldn't get enough Nvidia chips. This year it switched to supplying voltage transformers. In a year or two, it's just a matter of electricity supply,” he explained.
Last year, when he predicted the future superintelligence will develop in five to six years, Musk is very concerned about the consequences.
“If I could stop for a moment on AI or superintelligence truly advanced digital AI, I will do it,” Musk said at the launch of his AI startup, xAI, last year.
Launch The Guardianit seems unrealistic that xAI will essentially build AI.
“It's actually important for us to worry about the Terminator future to avoid the Terminator future,” Musk said, referring to the film in which a self-aware computer system wages war on humanity.
A year later, xAI is firmly trying to lead development superintelligence.
In a recent interview, Musk said the latest version of his Grok AI chatbot is equivalent to GPT-4, a leading model from OpenAI. GPT-4 is more than a year old, and competitors have met or exceeded its capabilities, with Anthropic's Claude 3 Opus generally seen as the new market leader.
Entrepreneurs' predictions are made freely. In 2016, he incorrectly predicted that within two years Tesla would be able to drive autonomously from New York to Los Angeles.
In the same year, Musk said his SpaceX rocket company would fly to Mars in 2018, but in reality it still hasn't. In 2017, Musk suggested the first product startups Its Neuralink brain chip will be on the market in about four years. The first humans received implants from the company seven years later.
