Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – General Election Commission (KPU) appoint Prabowo Subianto – Gibran Rakabuming Raka as Elected President and Vice President 2024-2029.
“The KPU has determined presidential and vice presidential candidate number 2, Mr. Prabowo Subianto and Gibran Rakabuming Raka as the elected presidential and vice presidential candidates for 2024 – 2029,” said Chairman of the General Election Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari in a plenary session, Wednesday.
According to the KPU's schedule, Prabowo Subianto will take the oath as President of the Republic of Indonesia on Sunday, October 20. One of the interesting things that will accompany Prabowo Subianto's inauguration will be his residence. When he officially becomes president, where do you think Prabowo will live?
Until now there has been no official answer to this question. However, we can make predictions by referring to historical facts and the personal residence of the man born October 17 1951.
It is known that Prabowo now has two private houses. First, on Jl. Kertanegara No.4, Kebayoran Baru, South Jakarta, which is actually a house inherited from his father, Sumitro Djojohadikusumo. Secondin Bojongkoneng Village, Hambalang, Bogor, which was built when Prabowo retired from the military and was active in business.
As president, of course he can choose these two houses as his future residence. After all, history also records that many Indonesian Presidents chose private homes as residences during their presidential terms.
For example, President Suharto who preferred to live on Jl. Cendana, Menteng, for 32 years in power. Then, President BJ Habibie who lives in Kuningan, South Jakarta. There is also a residence on Jl. Teuku Umar is the official residence of President Megawati. Finally, President SBY, who lived in Cikeas for 10 years in power.
Even so, Prabowo will also be able to live in a palace owned by the state wherever he is. The Ministry of State Secretariat explained that the president is allowed to use the palace as a residence. In total there are 6 presidential palaces in Indonesia, of course the closest to Jakarta are Merdeka Palace and Bogor Palace. Or when the State Palace at IKN is completed, Prabowo can live there.
History also records that there were three Indonesian Presidents who lived in the palace while in power.
First, President Soekarno. The 1st President is known to reside at the Merdeka Palace in Jakarta, with his entire family. All his children, including Megawati Soekarnoputri, had their own rooms. As children, Sukarno also sent them to school on the terrace of the State Palace.
Second, President Abdurrahman Wahid. Even though he has a private house in Ciganjur, the figure who is often called Gus Dur chooses to live at the Merdeka Palace.
Greg Barton in The Authorized Biography of Abdurrahman Wahid (2010) said that before staying at the Merdeka Palace, it is said that Gus Dur first negotiated with the spirits guarding the palace. This is because Merdeka Palace is known as a ghost's 'nest' because it has not been lived in for a long time.
Third, President Jokowi. The 7th President does not have a private house in Jakarta and its surroundings because he grew up in Solo. As a result, when he became president, Jokowi chose to live at the Bogor Palace from 2014 until now.
So, in conclusion, when he was inaugurated as the 8th President of Indonesia, Prabowo Subianto was predicted to make these three locations his residence while in power. Namely the house on Jl. Kertanegara, Hambalang house, and palace belong to the state.
