Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Google stated that neighboring Indonesia has high potential to become the world's center for artificial intelligence (AI).
Managing Director of Google Cloud, Caroline Yap, said Singapore has the potential to become a global AI hub because of its ecosystem that spurs innovation.
“For AI to fulfill its potential, you need a good private-government partnership,” Yap told CNBC International, (7/2/2024).
Google Cloud and the Singapore government held a meeting to seek out the best generative AI solutions from several companies and groups that are part of the “AI pioneers” initiative.
The initiative was first announced in July by Singapore's Ministry of Communications and Information, Digital Industry Singapore, Smart Nation and Digital Government Office, and Google Cloud.
“If you have a good private-government partnership, you can start to improve use cases in the public sector such as for citizen services. You can also create an environment that spurs innovation,” said Yap.
Singapore is the first country to have an AI strategy. In December, Indonesia's neighbors launched the National AI Strategy 2.0 as a development plan for the use of AI.
As part of the AI pioneer program, Singapore opened two sand box programs filled with around 100 AI development entities. AI developers are given access to Google Cloud GPUs, the Vertex AI platform, semi-trained generative AI models, and developer tools. The platform makes it easy for AI developers to build and test AI solutions in a controlled, purpose-built cloud environment.
Through this collaboration pattern, 43 entities from the government and industrial sectors have successfully built AI solutions using Google AI tools.
