Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia– The chicken farming business group in Karah Village, Jambangan District, Surabaya, East Java, Jago Karah Farm (JKF) has successfully utilized the My Life My Cluster program from PT Bank Rakyat Indonesia (Persero) Tbk.
This business group, which carries the concept of minimal odor farming by providing fermented food to the chickens it raises, has also been successful in producing various products which they now market themselves.
JKF was born from the idea of the local village head together with four local residents, including Akip who served as chairman. According to Akip, this business group is a way to open up employment opportunities as well as a form of charity.
From the start of creating this chicken farm, both Akip and his colleagues had planned not to cause discomfort to the local community.
“Different from most chicken farms, JKF, which was formed in 2022, carries the concept of chicken coops without unpleasant odors. Because, in Surabaya, especially around our neighborhood, there are only narrow, densely populated streets and alleys,” explained Akip in his statement Thursday ( 4/4/2024).
“Initially, this business group only had 10 members. Then, we took the initiative to distribute hatched chicks to residents free of charge. So, when the chickens lay eggs again, they are obliged to return them to JKF for the next development process. “Initially there were only 10 members, now there are 45 breeders who are members of JKF,” said Akip.
On this farm, Akip and his colleagues chose KUB free-range chickens because of their various advantages. Starting from a faster size, to a larger number of eggs compared to free-range chickens in general.
On the other hand, JKF produces various products, ranging from cheaper chicken feed, eggs, DOC, and broiler chickens for consumption.
“We have a number of products that can be sold. One of them is frozen seasoned chicken, which can be cooked immediately. Meanwhile, marketing itself is still in the Karah sub-district and surrounding areas. Because our resources are still limited to make deliveries to other cities, especially those outside Java,” said Akip.
Furthermore, Akip explained that the business group had struggled with the expensive price of chicken feed. But now JFK can breathe more easily thanks to assistance from BRI through the My Life Cluster program.
JKF received infrastructure assistance in the form of 1 pellet making machine, cutting machine, 1 grass chopper machine, 4 automatic egg machines, flour making machine, drying machine, and drum repair tools.
“After receiving assistance from BRI, the breeders can smile a little. Because, from this assistance, we can meet the pellet needs for the breeders, but at a cheaper price and according to their capabilities. We are grateful to BRI for facilitating the equipment. In the future “We hope that BRI can continue to provide assistance and support so that this business can develop further and, if possible, work together to realize the various programs that we have for the good of the surrounding community,” he concluded.
Regarding this empowerment program, BRI Micro Business Director Supari said that the My Life Cluster program is BRI's commitment to continue to accompany and help business actors in various regions in Indonesia. Apart from providing capital, this program also provides training and other empowerment.
“We also encourage the productivity of business groups by providing assistance with business equipment or supporting infrastructure. Hopefully, the assistance provided can be utilized as well as possible,” he stressed.
