Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Technological developments have shifted transaction methods to the digital realm. People currently have many options for carrying out transactions, including via QRIS developed by BI, as well as mobile banking applications.
Jalin's Main Director, Ario Tejo Bayu Aji, admitted that transactions via ATM had indeed decreased. However, there is a unique phenomenon that occurs in Indonesia.
For your information, Jalin is a company that focuses on the digitalization of banking products, as well as switching financial instruments.
According to Ario, more non-cash transactions have shifted to mobile banking, which has been widely developed by banks. However, cash transactions continue to grow and still operate via ATM.
“Non-cash transactions have indeed fallen, switching to mobile banking. But cash transactions are growing amazingly. So it's still going on. In Indonesia this is unique, although perhaps digital via QRIS is higher,” he said at the CNBC Indonesia Economic Outlook 2024 event at the Hotel Ritz-Carlton, Pacific Place, Jakarta, Thursday (29/2/2024).
Furthermore, according to him, ATMs in banking are actually currently still relatively growing in transaction volume, even though the surge in the digital sector is indeed higher.
Head of the Payment System Policy Department of Bank Indonesia, Dicky Kartikoyono, on the same occasion said that the variety of digital financial instruments shows that the potential in the digital sector is still broad.
“Even though ATMs will decrease, we will move to digitalization,” he said.
