Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Indonesia had to lose third place in the U-23 Asian Cup after being beaten by Iraq with a narrow score of 2-1. The goals occurred in the first half through Ivar Jenner's kick in the 18th minute and Nihad Mohammed's header in the 26th minute. Iraq's additional goal came in extra time in the 95th minute through Jasim Ali's hard kick.
Playing at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium, Doha, Qatar, Iraq took the initiative to attack after the first half kicked off. However, Iraq's surprise attack succeeded in breaking the Indonesian National Team's defense line.
Indonesia's first chance came in the 3rd minute, but Jeam Kelly Sroyer's position was offside. In the 6th minute, Marcelino took a turn to shoot from outside the penalty box, the ball was still over the Iraqi crossbar.
Another opportunity from Indonesia came in the 17th minute, Nathan's left footed shot which Nathan tried to reflect was saved by the Iraqi player.
Goal! Indonesia finally scored a goal in the 18th minute through Ivar Jenner's hard kick in the chaos in front of the Iraqi goal. Iraqi goalkeeper Hussein Hasan couldn't stop his hard shot. Indonesia leads 1-0.
Iraq attacks again. In the 19th minute, Ernando managed to block Ali Jasim's hard shot.
Goal! Iraq got a goal back in the 26th minute through Nihad Mohammed's header. The referee had time to check VAR. After analysis, Nihad's goal was deemed clean from violations. The position changed to 1-1. Until 4 minutes added to the first half, the position remained 1-1.
Entering the second half, both Indonesia and Iraq took turns attacking each other. In the 53rd minute, Marcelino tried to shoot but it was still far above the goal.
Iraq opened the opportunity in the 55th minute, fortunately Ali Jasim's shot went wide on Ernando's right side. In the 71st minute it was Indonesia's turn to attack. Jeam Kelly Sroyer opened the opportunity with a hard shot but it was still above the Iraqi goal.
A golden opportunity came from Iraq in the 91st minute. Nihad escaped the control of the Indonesian defender. However, Ernando managed to block his shot. Until 8 minutes of added time in the second half, the score remained 1-1.
Entering the first extra time, neither team made any substitutions. Iraq continues to put pressure on Indonesia through dangerous crossings.
Goal! Indonesia finally conceded in the 95th minute, Jasim Ali managed to escape Hubner's control and scored a goal with a hard kick which managed to break into Ernando Ari's goal.
Both teams took turns attacking each other. Until the second extra time there were no additional goals. Iraq won victory over Indonesia with a score of 1-2.
With this result, Indonesia's chances of qualifying for the 2024 Paris Olympics are not closed. Indonesia must play a playoff round against Guinea to compete for the remaining place on May 9 2024 in Paris.
