Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Artificial Intelligence (AI) will continue to develop. However, it is estimated that the point of being superior or smart will only be reached in another 10 years.
This prediction was made by the boss of Chinese technology giant Baidu, Robin Li. His remarks differ from those of two other technology figures, Elon Musk and Sam Altman, who are the bosses of OpenAI, regarding artificial general intelligence or AGI.
Both predict that AGI will grow in the near future. In fact, according to Musk, this will happen in 2026.
“AGI is still a few years away. Now many people are talking about AGI and saying… maybe two years from now, maybe five years from now. I think more than 10 years,” said Li, quoted by CNBC International, Friday (24/10/2024 ).
He said current AGI models are not yet at the level of being as intelligent as humans. However, Li did not explain further how to reach this level.
“And how to achieve it? We don't know,” he said.
Over the last two years, AI development has been quite rapid. Starting from the popularity of ChatGPT, which was created by OpenAI, it continues to increase and a number of other technology companies are starting to develop AI.
Baidu is also joining the wave of AI developments. Last year, the company launched a chatbot with its own large language model called Ernie.
However, Li said that progress was still very slow. The fear is that AI will not develop quickly.
“Everyone is surprised at the rapid development of technology in recent years. But for me, it's still not fast. It's too slow,” Li said.
