Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Eid is a celebration full of joy and victory after a full month of fasting. Usually, during Eid, various kinds of delicious food are served, such as chicken opor, pastries, rendang and vegetables containing full-fat coconut milk.
However, consuming excessive food during Eid can cause unwanted weight gain.
However, don't worry, you can still maintain your weight and enjoy the Eid moments without fear of becoming 'eid' with the tips quoted by CNBC Indonesia (12/4) as follows:
1. Limit certain types of food
Be careful of the risk of increasing cholesterol lurking during Eid. Foods containing coconut milk contain saturated fat which can increase blood cholesterol levels.
Apart from that, sweet foods such as pastries also need to be limited, especially for those who suffer from diabetes. For those who don't have diabetes, sweet foods can trigger excess weight and tooth decay.
2. Chew food slowly
A study published in The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition revealed that eating slowly helps the body get full quickly. This happens because the body responds well to the satiety signals sent by the brain. By eating slowly, you can curb excessive appetite.
3. Eat on a small plate
Do you believe that the size of your plate can actually influence how much food you consume?
A study conducted by Cornell University in the United States revealed that eating using smaller plates can help you lose 2 pounds or 0.9 kg per month.
This happens because when you eat on a small plate, the brain will receive a visual cue that you are full with a plate full of food. Therefore, try to use a small plate when taking food, OK!
4. Don't eat while watching television
Eating while watching your favorite film or series is fun. However, this habit is not good for your body, you know! Eating while watching television can disrupt concentration because the brain will have difficulty realizing how much food has entered the body. Therefore, pay more attention to the food you are eating so that your weight is maintained.
5. Consume vegetables and fruit
Try to increase your consumption of vegetables and fruit during the Eid holiday so that your fiber needs are met. Consuming fiber can help your body feel full quickly, preventing you from overeating. Apart from that, consuming fiber can also improve digestion and prevent constipation.
