Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia- The Indonesian Ministry of Agriculture said that the Director of Vegetables & Medicinal Plants at the Ministry of Agriculture, Andi Muhammad Idil Fitri, continues to anticipate a spike in food prices ahead of Eid, including garlic by increasing production.
Andi said the increase in garlic prices was due to supply disruptions where currently local garlic production is being encouraged through innovative seed technology which produces large cloves so that they can approach the characteristics of imported garlic.
Meanwhile, the Minister of Agriculture from 2004-2009, Anton Apriyantono, said that the lack of research incentives was the cause of the still low production of a number of Indonesian food commodities, including garlic. Anton mentioned the importance of researching garlic seeds that have high productivity so that Indonesia can reduce dependence on imports.
So what efforts should be made to encourage Indonesian garlic production?
